In 2009 LIPSA was a pioneer in sustainability being the first European refinery to import sustainable palm oil certified by the RSPO (Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil). In 2020, following our commitment to the sustainability of our raw materials, as well as to consolidate our position in a market where consumers are becoming more informed and aware of sustainability, we have made the decision to certify our seed oils under ISCC PLUS.

Hand in hand with ISCC, we have carried out the homologation of our plant in Barcelona to supply all customers who, like us, want to take a step further in their commitment to reduce emissions and support a more environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture and industry.

What is ISCC and what does it guarantee?

ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification is a global certification system that offers solutions to achieve sustainable supply chains, free of deforestation and enabling the traceability of raw materials from their origin to their final destination.

ISCC certification guarantees, among other aspects:

• Compliance with strict environmental and social standards.
• Monitoring and savings in greenhouse gas emissions (on a voluntary basis for ISCC PLUS).
• Protection of land with high biodiversity
• Implementation of best practices to conserve natural resources.

LIPSA was already ISCC EU certified for all the raw materials we supply to the biofuels industry. The growing demand in the market and an increasingly informed and aware consumer on sustainability issues, has led us to take the decision to certify our seed oils under ISCC PLUS.

ISCC PLUS guarantees traceability throughout the entire chain. We work with the Mass Balance chain of custody model, which allows for greater operational flexibility. Also, for those customers who wish, we guarantee the absence of genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) and we can detail the level of CO2 emissions of the oil we supply.

Which oils are sustainable under ISCC PLUS?

LIPSA is certified to supply the main seed oils for food and industrial applications: sunflower, high oleic sunflower, soybean and rapeseed, as well as any blend of these oils.
